To Martin Luther in 16th-century Germany, this was the central statement of the scriptures. We all are stained by sin, but through Jesus’ death and resurrection, Jesus Christ became the instrument of grace, and simply by accepting Him we are forgiven.
We are a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the local Metropolitan Chicago Synod.
As Lutherans, we live in the daily awareness of and gratitude for this grace, and we strive to make our actions a response to God’s abundant grace. At ELC, our worship, programming and activities is a response based on our mission statement:
Transforming Lives by Sharing a Saving Faith in Jesus Christ and by Living the Gospel through Service.
